Malvern Star began life as a small bicycle store in the suburb of Malvern in Melbourne, Australia in 1903. During the Second World War with supply bicycles becoming rare, Malvern Star began manufacturing their own. Changing hands a few times over the years, the company was purchased by Raleigh in 1980 until 1992, when it was sold again. Nicole Kidman rode a Malvern Star BMX in the movie BMX Bandits.
